Are you the owner of a puppy that bites? Then it is time you took remedial action to stop dog biting. There is great peril in allowing for it to carry on, because you feel that is is only harmless nipping. Playful nipping will in the end, become very dangerous biting.
No animal owner should have a puppy that may harm children, the guests or anyone who just happens to be there. If your puppy has a biting problem then there are ways to stop dog biting. Not addressing this problematic issue surely land you in serious trouble.
If your puppy is likely to bite and manages to get out alone, it can bite children, passers by, and anyone on the street, and causes serious damage, the authorities would have it put down because it is a hazardous animal, and you end up being taken to court. In order to keep such harmful thing happening to your family members, you and your doggy, the only thing to do is to learn puppy training biting.
Biting is unacceptable behavior in household dogs and must be addressed when the dog is a few weeks old. All pups love to chew, so the first thing to have is an ample supply of chew toys around. This succeeds a long way into discouraging a young dog from mouthing anything and everything it can place its mouth around, mainly because mouthing is the inception of all biting problems.
If your puppy had been long enough with its offspring it would have been taught by its mother, and litter mates, how to repress its biting urges. If a puppy bites its mother, the mother will yell. The puppy is startled and alarmed at its mother’s reaction, and if the puppy continues biting unchecked, the mother would yelp louder with a snarl and proceeds to, avoiding the biting puppy.
This is how puppies get the message that they cannot use that strength with their jaws and teeth, and if the puppy bites the mother the third time his mother will turn on him forcefully. Consequently the puppy learns from its mother and siblings in the social pack that the urge to bite has to be controlled.
Because we have dislodged the puppy from this born training atmosphere, we would have to assume the role of its mother, and take steps to stop the dog biting. The approach us humans could employ to carry out these ‘you cannot bite’ classes would be to yelp in a high-pitched voice whenever the puppy tries to mouth or bite us anywhere on our body, or the clothes we are wearing. A small amount of stretching the truth will make it easier for the dog to understand. If the nipping continues, start disregarding the puppy after the ‘yelp’ and refuse to play with it. The puppy will soon work out that biting leads to all the enjoyment and affection being cancelled, and will realize that biting is not permissible behavior pattern.
Another way to stop puppy from mouthing is by using a muzzle. This to onlookers, may appear to be a bit cruel or extreme, but it is not. A muzzle will not hurt the doggy in any way. It just stops it from opening its jaws wide enough to bite anything. The puppy will soon figure out why the muzzle is on and will learn. Every puppy owner must never forget, that, a dog that bites, is one of the most severe dog problems, which any canine owner could have the bad luck to be troubled with. Play biting can lead to real serious biting and steps to prevent dog biting must be taken before the unthinkable happens.
