In earlier periods, camping was a rare outdoor activity since most people already are sort of camping due to the fact that they already lived in tents.  With the evolution of each recorded civilization, so as the way of constructing homes and houses made of stone and concrete became the ideal home structures.  Because plenty of people want to get away from the stressful and hectic life of cities, the urge to breath fresh air of the woodlands have made camping a favorite weekend activity.

Every year, the number of individuals going camping increases and a few of the reasons why is to get a vacation and not to spend too much money.  Thanks to modern camping equipments, sheltering and cooking food have become more convenient.  Portable cooking equipments and utensils have made cooking outdoors much efficient while tents have gone from simple wooden rods and canvass to durable and flexible carbon fibre poles and water proof synthetic fabrics.

Preparing to go camping has become easier and modern tents have played a part to this.  Tents are essential whether it’s for hiking, camping or backpacking.

The most common type of tents to be had in the market are:

Pyramid Tents

Pyramid tents are the simplest form of camping tents where four stakes, two wooden poles and one giant canvas are the main tools.  The straightforward assembly of pyramid tents make them standard camping forms and amateur campers will have quite an easy time in setting it up.  Tents like these, though, provide less defense from insects and expose occupants from mosquito bites.  Many manufacturers of camping gears have made pyramid tents that include entryways with zippers which also have synthetic fabric canvass and carbon fiber poles and rods.

Dome Tents

One of the most common and preferred tents by many are dome tents.  Rain water is not just repelled more effectively with dome tents but it’s also designed to provide more space in its entrance and inside for its occupants compared to triangular tents.  Two poles usually come with dome tents.  Dome tents that are modified offer more durability and resilience against heavy rains and strong winds.  Additional rods and poles to its endoskeleton allows it to be more sturdier.

Tunnel Tents

Tunnel tents have an uneven space and are tapered lower at the back.  Tunnel tents usually come with two poles where one is much shorter than the other one but single-pole varieties also exist.  The major advantage of tunnel tents is that they are built lighter.  Because of its compact design, tunnel tents are the ideal type of tents for backpack tents

When you acquire a tent, be sure to always keep it dry to prevent moisture damage such as mold and mildew which not only cause discoloration, it will also make them stinky and a potential health hazard.  If your tent is wet, it is good to dry it before storing it.  You can dry your tent by hanging it in a long clothesline and let the air dry it.  You can also dry it by sun but it’s important to know that ultraviolet rays from the sun can potentially damage the tent fabric.  It is recommended not to expose it for prolonged periods under the sun otherwise wear and tear from heat would gradually deteriorate the fabric.
